Applications Insight: Implantation Research in 3D Printing PEEK Material
HEC is an organization mainly engaged in the three major industries of biomedicine, electronic materials and health preservation, and currently employs more than 20000 people. HEC has established R&D laboratory for new drugs, biological drugs, generic drugs, traditions Chinese herbs, new materials, smart devices and electronic materials; which have great impact to the world’s medicine field. HEC is the first independent R&D, independent registration and has passed the US FDA, EU, WHO and China CFDA quadruple GMP overseas drug production base in China.
PEEK material is very close to the modulus of the bone itself and has good toughness and fatigue resistance. In the field of intervertebral fusion, it has more advantages than titanium, cobalt and chromium alloy materials, such as biocompatibility, chemical stability and especially its elastic modulus is closed to the bone itself. With the development of the medical implant market, PEEK has been applied to more medical fields such as spinal surgery, plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, dentistry and etcetera.
The characteristic of PEEK is that it has excellent mechanical and chemical properties. In medicine, it has been used for different kind of implants for a long period of time. The skull, sternum, knee joint and intervertebral body (Spine implants) these are all using PEEK materials for long-term implantation. In recent years, PEEK has also been increasingly used in dentistry. Due to its superior biocompatibility and ideal mechanical properties, it is particularly attractive as a dental restoration material. PEEK is a very ideal dental 3D printing material.
Through 3D printing technology, all R&D projects can be implemented quickly to improve R&D efficiency and meet all PEEK information needs. IEMAI 3D MAGIC-HT-L 3D printer can achieve a layer resolution of 0.05 mm, positioning accuracy X/Y: 12.5 μm and Z: 1.25 μm, thus, HEC chooses this printer for research and development.
“The entry level of IEMAI high temperature 3D printer is very simple, after a day of learning and training, currently our researchers have greatly reduced the time required for R&D and verification. Therefore, HEC has witnessed a significant improvement in R&D cycle and reduced in R&D costs.” said the HEC project manager.
